Frequently asked questions about filing appeals online

How do I file my appeal online?

Fill out the online appeal form, upload your supporting documents, and securely pay the appeal fee. Note: The link will open in a new browser window and take you to a secure external website.

Do I need to create an account?

You do not need to create an account to file and pay for appeals online. You can submit your appeal and pay appeal fees in a few simple steps. Fill out the online appeal form.

How do I pay my appeal fee online?

Once you complete the online appeal form, the payment system will open automatically and you can enter your payment details. It supports real time, secure payments with no additional charges or transaction fees.

What methods of payment are accepted?

You can pay using Visa credit, Visa debit, Mastercard credit or Mastercard debit. There is no option to pay using Interac debit at this time.

Do I still have the option to mail in my appeal and pay by cheque?

Yes. The IPC continues to accept appeals by mail along with payments made by cheque or money order.

Note: the online appeal form and payment system operate together. If you submit your appeal online, you must also provide payment online and not by mail. Similarly, you will not be able to pay online if you submit your appeal form by mail.

How do I know if my appeal and payment was submitted successfully?

The online system will generate a confirmation email and payment receipt. You will receive a formal Notice of Appeal from the IPC within ten business days.

Can I check the status of my appeal online?

No. You will receive a formal Notice of Appeal from the IPC once your file has been processed. You will be contacted by IPC staff once your file has been assigned.

What if I made a mistake or forgot to include something?

If you need to change your appeal after it has been submitted online, please email the IPC at @email or call us at (416) 326-3333 or 1-800-387-0073.

Can I save my work in draft form before submitting?

No, you will not be able to save a draft appeal form to submit at a later time. You must complete and submit the appeal form at once.

What if there is a problem with my payment?

Can I file and pay for my appeal online if I’m located outside of Canada?

No. If you are located internationally, please download a printable appeal form, fill it out and mail  it to our office with your supporting documents and a cheque or money order payable to “Minister of Finance.”
