Privacy Commissioner's Office Concludes Investigation into Leaked Police Records
The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) has completed its investigation into the unauthorized disclosure of confidential police documents.
As part of its investigation, the IPC found that Peel Regional Police arrest documents were accessed via a shared database and disclosed by a member of the Toronto Police Service. No breach of privacy by any member of Peel Regional Police was identified.
Following a review of Toronto Police Services’ practices, the IPC is satisfied that appropriate policies, procedures and training are in place to ensure personal information is being used in accordance with Ontario’s Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
The Office of the Independent Police Review Director is currently investigating the actions of the Toronto Police Service member. The IPC has concluded its investigation and will not be issuing a public report.
