Information and Privacy Commissioners' Letter to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security
The IPC along with its provincial and territorial colleagues across Canada today issued a letter to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security addressing their deep concerns about Bill C-51. The letter outlines how the proposed legislation would challenge Canadians’ fundamental rights and freedoms by significantly expanding the power of the state to conduct surveillance. It offers seven recommendations for amendments to the bill which would help protect the privacy of Canadians and ensure effective oversight is in place.
