Submission to the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly on Bill 41, Patients First Act, 2016
Our office has reviewed Bill 41, Patients First Act, 2016, which proposes to eliminate Ontario’s 14 Community Care Access Centres and transfer their functions to Ontario’s Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs). As a result of the changes, LHINs would also be given an expanded role to oversee, and plan for, the delivery of health care at the regional level. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care would be given a similarly expanded role to oversee the operations of LHINs.
Our submission addresses the privacy implications of these proposed changes. The goal of our recommendations is to enhance the protection of personal health information of Ontarians.
