IPC Webinar - Records Information Management
Poor records and information management (RIM) practices can have a number of negative impacts on an institution and its staff. This can include affecting the quality of responses to freedom of information (FOI) requests, hindering transparency and accountability, and jeopardizing privacy of personal information.
As part of our Right to Know Week activities, the IPC is releasing a webinar video examining the relationship between RIM and Ontario’s access and privacy laws. The webinar covers topics such as retention schedules, secure destruction, using personal email to conduct public business and duty to document, to name a few.
Developing and implementing effective RIM practices and policies are key to complying with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Our webinar is aimed directly at institutions and their staff to help them understand the relationship between good records information management practices and their ability to meet their responsibilities under the acts.
By implementing strong RIM practices, public institutions and public servants can vastly improve their service offerings through increased responsiveness, efficiency, transparency and accountability to the public.
