IPC launches new podcast

In case you haven’t heard, the IPC has launched a new podcast!

It’s called Info Matters, and it’s about people, privacy, and access to information.

Through this new communication channel, I’ll be talking with people from all walks of life, hearing interesting stories, providing concrete facts, and answering everyday questions about the privacy and access to information issues that matter to them.

Seniors, parents and teachers, children and youth, girls and women, writers and journalists, healthcare workers, Franco-Ontarians, and culturally diverse communities across Ontario ... everyone’s invited to take part in the conversation.

Today, we launched our first episode about protecting yourself against phishing and other types of cyber attacks. I speak with the IPC’s senior technology advisor, Fred Carter, who shares practical tips for protecting personal information in your phones and computers, and explains how you can avoid falling for the common traps.

As Fred says, the criminals behind these phishing attempts are incredibly inventive and unfortunately, seniors are particularly vulnerable to these sneaky scams. Awareness and prevention are key to ensuring you, and your elderly parents or neighbors, don’t take the bait. You can listen to the full episode here.

When I began my role as commissioner last July, I committed to building upon the IPC’s strong legacy of public outreach and education. This podcast is one of the new, virtual ways we are looking to do just that.

Listen anywhere, anytime. Our goal is to provide reliable and useful information about everyday access and privacy issues, while — dare I say — having a bit of fun along the way!

I hope you’ll tune in to listen to an access or privacy topic of interest to you or contact us to suggest new, fresh ideas by sending a tweet to @IPCinfoprivacy or emailing us at @email.

I am looking forward to enjoying some great conversations about access and privacy issues that Ontarians care about.

If it matters to you, it matters to me.

Patricia
