Statement from the Commissioner for Right to Know Week

“Right to Know Week raises awareness of the role of freedom of information as a pillar of democracy. The right to access government-held information provides citizens with a window into how their governments are operating, supporting transparency, accountability and civic engagement.

These democratic principles are timeless, but the laws supporting them are not. Modernizing our province’s outdated access and privacy laws to keep pace with technology is long overdue. If we want to continue to uphold the rights of Ontarians, we need the right tools in place.”

Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario
